(Please note: I am granddaughter of Josie & Albert Curtis. When Albert Curtis died in 1948, his widow Josie Curtis placed a double marker on his grave at New Salem which included her own name and date of birth. When Josie Curtis died in 1975, she was buried in Center Hill Cemetery, Counce (near Pickwick), Hardin County, Tennessee, by their son R. G. Curtis who died in 1964 … Center Hill is a short distance from the little home where Josie Curtis lived out her days after the death of Albert Curtis in 1948. Bonnie Gober Crocker, daughter of Wm Noonan Gober & Raney Curtis Gober McAnally) Josie was the daughter of John Groves Smith and Sarah "Sallie" Duncan. Josie married Albert Curtis on April 14, 1907 in Hardin County, Tennessee. She was 13. They were the parents of 12 children. After Albert's death, Josie picked cotton to pay for a double marker and it was placed on Albert's grave. As the years went by, and especially after the death of their son Joseph R. G. Curtis, Josie decided to be buried at Center Hill Cemetery in Counce, Hardin County, Tennessee, next to her beloved son R. G. Curtis. Also near Josie's grave are her daughters Raney, Racine, Ressie and several grandchildren.
