Bio

Dr. Fred S. Williams grew up and graduated from Pasadena HS. He played in the Houston Symphony as a 16 year old. Upon graduating from high school, he attended Sam Houston State Teachers College. He finished his Bachelor's of Science Degree in 1945. One of his students he met when he was student teaching was Clara Faye Platt. Upon her high school graduation and after she turned 18 on Dec 2, 1942 they married on December 4th. Fred went to work at American Oil and Refinery in Texas City. The first five years Fred and Faye were married they didn't own a car. After the deadliest explosion in Texas City refineries (1947) Fred decided to follow his degree and he began teaching band, which he loved. He received his Master's Degree from the University of Houston Central Campus in 1953 and his Doctorate of Education in 1964 from The University of Houston Central Campus. His dissertation was centered around "reading" and he taught in the LaMarque Jr High. He advanced to become an Assistant Principal and was soon moved to the La Marque Central Administration Building where he rose to his final job of being the Asst. Superintendent of Curriculum and Federal Programs. He held that job during the turbulent times that the entire nation faced with the integration of students. Fred's love of his church led him to be appointed as an Elder with the La Marque Church of Christ where he and the Superintendent of LMISD, Gene Tenney also attended. In the teaching community, he was known as "Dr. Fred" to his teachers. He was involved with the Kiwanis Club as well and wanted to serve his community, his church, and his district. Upon his retirement, he became involved with the collection of antique clocks which was a hobby he truly loved. In addition, he and Clara Faye traveled to various parts of the world. He was a wonderful Christian husband, father, and friend to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Clara Faye Platt Williams; daughter, Janice Elizabeth Carraway/husband Bill; two sons; Michael W. Williams/wife Terri Hope Timmerman Williams; and Fred Stewart Williams Jr./wife Judy Parker Williams. His grandchildren are: Courtney Lea Carraway, Tara Elizabeth Carraway, Andrew Platt Williams, Amanda Hope Williams, Kaylin Ann Williams and Kassie Lea Williams.
