Taken from the "Ord Quiz" May 1967 Mrs. Mary Petska Longtime Resident of County, Dies Mrs.Mary Petska 98, resident of Valley county for almost 80 years, died Saturday the Valley County Hospital after a serious illness of six weeks. The requiem mass was offered by Father Stanley Gorak, at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Auditorium. Mrs Margaret Edwards was organist. Pallbearers were Emanuel Petska, Eugene Petska, Stanley Petska, Donald Petska, Paul Petska and Jack Petska. Honorary Pallbearers were Richard Petska, LaVern Petska, Jerry Petska, James Petska, Ronnie Petska, Kenneth Petska, Roger Petska, Darrell Petska and Francis Petska. The rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Hastings-Pearson Mortuary. Burial was in the Ord Cemetery. Mrs. Petska was born Oct 17, 1868 in Czechoslovakia and came to Valley county with a brother, Joe Beran. She was married to Frank Petska,Sr., Jan 20, 1890 at the Geranium Catholic Church. Mr. Petska preceded her in death in 1958. For the past 20 years she made her home in Ord. She was a member of the Ord Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Survivors are three sons, Joe, of Ord, Lou of Grand Island and George of Orange Calif. two daughter, Mrs Barbara Capek of Ft. Morgan Colo. and Mrs. Mary Highland, of Riverton Wyo.; 21 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren,and 25 great great-grandchildren. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and three sons.
