John's birth name was Wichlacz but the family changed it to Herman for easier spelling. He was the son of Thomas Wichlacz (Herman) and Katherine Wieczorek. He married Hedwiga (Hattie) Swierkowski Apr 28, 1903 at Thorp, Clark Co. Wisconsin. John was the father of Petronella, Edward John, Leon Anthony, Marcella, Stella, Michael Louis, Lucille Adeline, Catherine, Martin, Peter Paul and Sylvester Herman.
