Thomas was born in Lukoskie, Wagrowiec, Poland. He was baptized in Lukowo, Wagrowiec, Poland. They are both villages near Lekno. This site didn't have the villages in the program, so I picked the nearest city. Thomas WICHLACZ also went by the name Thomas HERMAN once he was in the USA. I found that he used WICHLACZ on most church records, but for government records he used the name HERMAN. HERMAN was his mother's maiden name. He changed it because the WICHLACZ name was hard to pronounce. Phonetically, it was pronounced more closely to Vickwatch (the W is a V sound, and the L has a tilde (~) through it which makes the "w" sound.) He married Katharine WIECZOREK Nov 20, 1866 in Panigrodz, Wagrowiec, Pila, Poland. Thorp, Wisc Courier June 14, 1923 p. 8 Thomas Herman died at the home of his daughter Mrs. M. Zaborowski on Wednesday of last week. He was born in Prussia Nov 17, 1838. He lived there until manhood and was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Wieczorek. Six years later he came to Michigan. From there he moved to Columbus, Nebraska, his home for several years. He then came to Wisconsin where he has spent the past thirty years. Five years ago Mr. Herman made his home with M. Zaborowski and family. The deceased leaves to mourn one brother, George Herman of Coldwater, Michigan, one sister, Mrs. Frank Wosniak, of Fullerton, Nebraska, four sons, Andrew and Charles Herman, of Thorp, Joe and John Herman of Gilman, six daughters. Mrs. Joe Zaborowski, of Glenmore, New York, Mrs. Steve Franckowiak, of Nebraska, Mrs. J Konwinski, of Fullerton, Nebraska, Mrs. A. Rosenthal of Lindsay, Nebraska and Mrs. M. Zaborowski of Thorp. The funeral took place at the St. Hedwig's church, Saturday, June 9, at 10 a.m. Rev. F. A. Kulig officiating. (Undertaker: John G. Bogumill)
