Gravesite details
To access, HWY 59 Business North of Loop 224. Take Second left into Sunset Memorial Park. Drive past 1st road on right to corner. Grave is 5th row back from 2nd road. Small tree planted two graves to the South, same row. Marker is metallic.
Bio
Chester Derwood Pitts was born in Fruitvale, Van Zandt County, Texas on January 9, 1924. He died in Nacogdoches Medical Center, Nacogdoches, Nacogdoches County Texas on January 9, 1976, his 52nd birthday. He was a United States Army Private during World War II. The marker has been worn down considerably since the funeral and is plain metallic brown now. It was bordered with bright brass and the interior color was a bright brown and the inscription was bright brass as well. I do not have any pictures of this other than from my memory. I was nine years old when he died. It is not easy to find and most likely is in a portion of the cemetery where there is a wide margin of plain dirt around the grave markers - search the North side of the cemetery (further away from town) He died from a heart attack following post-operative diabetic eye surgery and was going to be released that morning. This was entered by his son Jerry Pitts on April 5, 2010 and edited on October 3, 2018 by same. URL of website below updated and grid coordinates added.
