D/O Henry Thomas & Dorothy McKeand Baldridge 5th Dec. 1929: "Lyford News: Our community was greatly saddened early Sunday morning when it was announced that little Dorothy Lorraine Baldridge, age four and one-half years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baldridge, died at the Mercy Hospital in Brownsville at twelve o'clock on the night of November the thirtieth, death resulting from spinal meningitis. She had been sick for ten days. Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Baldridge, parents of Mr. Henry Baldridge. The services were conducted by Rev. Ben P. Jaco and Rev. Day, and the little body was laid to rest in the Lyford Cemetery, followed by a large concourse of people. Dorothy was born May 12, 1925 at Santa Rita, New Mexico. She has lived in Lyford the past four years. She was a member of the Lyford M. E. Church, South, and was a regular attendant at Sunday school. She was loved for her many little sweet ways and sayings by all who knew her, and she has left a host of relatives and friends to mourn her death. And then I think of one who in her youthful beauty died, The fair, meek blossom that grew up and faded by my side. In the cold, moist earth we laid her, when the fairest cast the leaf, And we wept that one so lovely should have a life so brief; Yet not unmeet it was that one, like that young friend of ours, So gentle and so beautiful, should perish with the flowers. The entire community extend their sympathy to the bereaved parents and relatives in their great sorrow."
