Bio

The Leesville Leader, Leesville, Louisiana, Thursday, 14 February, 1929, page 5, column 2: Another aged citizen has passed out of this life into the Great Beyond. Isreal Perkins, age 76 years 10 months, died at his home near Pitkin, Louisiana, February 8. He was laid to rest in the Occupy Cemetery, Rev. Hargrove, of Oakdale, Louisiana, delivering the funeral oration. Grandfather Perkins was born and reared in Rapides Parish, but for the last twelve years has rasided in Vernon. He was a true Christian, becoming a member of the Occupy Baptist Church in early life. He was faithful to the end in his belief and as his last hours on earth were drawing to a close, he said, "I am going home." He had been ill for several months. He was well-known all over the parish, as one who always took a very active part in politics. He is survived by the following, namely: His wife and children, Warren, Israel Jr., Caleb and Cecil Perkins; daughters,, Mrs. Pete Maricle, Mrs. M. E. Johnson, Mrs. W. J. Hall, Mrs. Ed McCullough, all of Pitkin, and Mrs. T. J. Johnson, Monroe, Louisiana; and Mrs. H. Perkins, Alexandria, Louisiana; Sixty (60) grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild also a host of friends. Grandfather will be greatly missed, but God knew best and called him home, where there is no suffering and sorrow. A granddaughter. Contributor: J. Wathen (47820054)
