Joneous is the eldest son of Joneous Simpson "J. Simp" Smith. He was married to Bettie Watkins Whitehead, Married in 1908 they had five children: Jessie Lee 1911, Benjamin Simpson 1914, Bonnie Inez 1915, Lola Anita, 1918 and Vera Ven 1928.
