Oscar Neel, 83, of Whitney, Texas, died Friday, March 19, 2010. Graveside services will be 12 noon Tuesday, March 23, at Jonesboro Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney prior to the service. Oscar was born in Post, Texas, to the late Oscar William and Mozelle Hastings Neel Sr. He grew up in the Jonesboro and Gatesville areas and graduated from Jonesboro High School. Oscar joined the United States Navy and served from 1944 to 1946. On October 21, 1946, he married Dorothy Reeves. He had owned and operated Neel's Plumbing for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Whitney. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 1, 2007; a brother, Raymond Neel and sister, Mazelle Hough. Survivors include his son, Bill Neel, of Whitney; daughter, Linda Finley, of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Willie Finley, Melanie Osborne, Tracey K. Henderson and Jeffery Barrett Neel; brothers, William Neel, of California, Frank Neel, of Arlington; and sister, Dorothy Williams, of McGregor. WT: 3/23/2010
