Isaac Preston Grimes was born on May 5, 1837, in Maury, Tennessee, his father, John, was 46 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 37. He married Martha Ann Grimes on January 2, 1855, in his hometown. They had 15 children in 27 years. He died on June 2, 1904, in Kaufman, Texas, at the age of 67.
