James Lee Griffin was the son of Richard H. Griffin and Elizabeth Caroline Patillo Wilkinson. He was known as Lee to family and friends. During the Civil War he served as a private in Company C, 1st Regiment (Olmstead's) Georgia Infantry, Confederate States Army. He moved to Cass County, Texas, after the Civil War and remained there the rest of his life. He was a prosperous businessman and farmer and highly respected in Cusseta and the county. He made the caskets for many of the people buried in Floyds Hill Cemetery. After Mary Eugenia died, Lee married again. His second wife was also named Mary, and she survived him.
