Bio

Alvin Shaver hated farm work when he was a young boy, but when he grew up he absolutely loved farming. He farmed the family farm with his brother, Jimmie Shaver until Jimmie died, then with his wife Jo Anne, and children and their husbands, mostly with Lisa and her husband Abe Rackley. After he and Jo Anne bought the family home they completely transformed it and the farm into a very comfortable, beautiful place to be. He grew the most beautiful vegetables which he and Jo Anne harvested, gave away, and preserved. He had a herd of black cows that would eat out of his hand. He had retired from TVA, served on Bledsoe County School Board 1976-1980, and as Bledsoe County Road Supervisor from 1982-1990. He and Jo Anne had four children: Vicky Lynn Kelley, Beth Hixson, Lisa Rackley and Phillip Shaver.
