Bio

Marvin James Leshikar was born on a South Taylor farm on June 5, 1921. He attended Taylor High School and graduated in 1938, at the age of 16. He then enrolled in the University of Texas in Austin to pursue studies in pharmacy and pre-med. After the outbreak of World War II in Europe, anticipating United State involvement in the conflict, he postponed his education and enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1940. He served his country, stateside and in Great Britain, for more than 5 years. There he met his future wife Barbara Jean Rosendahl whom he married on March 27th, 1948. Following an Honorable Discharge from the military in 1946, he resumed and completed his pharmacy studies. While working as a pharmacist, he entered medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and obtained his medical degree in 1951. After additional training in Temple, he returned to Taylor where he began a distinguished medical career spanning nearly 40 years, all shared with his dedicated nurse Sybil Kubacak. His kindness, compassion, and skills were utilized to deliver a broad range of care, including family medicine, obstetrics, and surgery. His family grew to include 5 children. He passed away on October 19th 2009 at the age of 88 at his home in Taylor in the presence of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 siblings, and a son, Michael James. He is survived by: wife, Barbara Jean; sister Claudie Glover; children, Pamela Krueger and husband, Ron, Peggy Leshikar-Denton and husband, Dennis, Nina Marek and husband, Edwin, and Johanna Corson and husband, Steve; grandchildren Jeff and spouse Jo Ellen and Jennifer Krueger, Megan Tondre and spouse Chris and Jason Marek, Anthony and spouse Tiffany, Hannah, Sterling and James Corson; great grandchildren Jourdan and Ryan Krueger; numerous beloved extended family members; special friends Harold Ripley, Reggie Ladner, Larry Krueger, Lonnie Raschke, Jimmy Brinkmeyer, Charles Flink, Bob Ponkoney and Bobby and Naomi Pasemann. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held on October 24th 2009 at the Providence Funeral Home Chapel in Taylor, Texas. Dr. Leshikar's unique dedication to his fellow man, as demonstrated by his service to community, country, and family, is honored in the Marvin J. Leshikar, M.D. Scholarship Fund, which was established by his grandson Dr. Jeff Krueger. The scholarship strives to identify, encourage, and reward individuals with the potential to reach and surpass the standard of service set by one of Taylor's most treasured citizens.
