Printed in the Houston Times Post dated October 16 1996 Houston—Mrs. Rachel White Betterton, age 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 8 1996 at Floy dyer Manor of cardiac arrest. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 11 at Houston Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Chickasaw Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Al Gaspard officiating. The daughter of the late Priest Steven White and the late Maggie Cade, she was born Aug. 4 1914 in Brooksville. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Maben, Batesville, Iuka and Houston. She was a 1936 graduate of MSCW and was a 4-H Club Sponsor and a former member of the Home Demonstration Club and the Culture Club. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Houston. Survivors include her husband, C B Betterton of Houston; one daughter, Margaret Dougherty of Houston, TX; one sister, Ruth Casey of Jackson and two grandsons, Robert and Thomas Dougherty, both of Houston, TX. Pallbearers were Dale Brooks, Gary Murphree, Scott Criddle, Larry Arrington, Thomas Rowlett and Raymond Griffin. Houston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
