Bio
Mrs. Irene Gary, 68, died at her home at 1309 Stephens at 9 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Gary had resided in Borger 36 years. She came here from Temple. She was a nursing graduate from Scott-White Clinic in Temple, and was a nurse 46 years. She was a nurse in Borger for 36 years she worked at the old North Plains Hospital when it was on Weatherly Street in 1937, and helped to move into the hospital's present location the following year. In 1964 she was named Beta Sigma Woman of the Year. She retired from North Plains Hospital as nursing supervisor in 1976. She was a member of the Johnson Park Church of Christ. Her husband, Jess Gary, preceded her in death in 1950. Survivors include a son Norman, of Cairo, Egypt; four sisters, Miss Elvira McKissick of Amarillo; Mrs. Bertha Wood of Grapeland; Mrs. Myrtle Abel of San Angelo and Mrs Bobbie New of Fort Worth; and one grandchild. Services are pending at Alexander-Simpson Funeral Directors. Charles Kymes, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Alexander-Simpson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Gary died Saturday. Pallbearers will be H.S. Buckwheat, W.B. Burris, Cleo Myers, George Bundrick, Van Reed and Judge Lumas. Survivors include a son, four sisters and a grandchild. The family requests memorials be sent to National Arthritic Foundation.
