PEORIA - Arthur R. Turner, 84, of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, formerly of Peoria, died at 7:04 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at the home. He had been a resident at the home since 1981. Born Aug. 23, 1925, in Pottstown, Art was a son of Herbert and Edna Cora Stear Turner. He married Carol Jean McKeever on Aug. 13, 1975, in Peoria. She survives. Art enjoyed collecting stamps and trains. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. He was employed on river barges on the Mississippi and Illinois rivers, the railroad and the Illinois Farm Supply in Peoria until his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Carol; one son, Larry Wayne Turner from a previous marriage, and his wife, Rosetta of Pekin; one sister, Jeanette Mason and her husband, Harold of West Peoria; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Turner of Peoria and Patricia Turner of Orchard Mines; four nephews, George Turner of Peoria and Eugene Turner of Orchard Mines, Chessie Bishop of Peoria and Leroy Dohm, also of Peoria; one niece, Sharon Williams of Peoria; two granddaughters, Heather Turner and Holly Turner; and two great-grandsons, AJ and Johnny Turner. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Bernard Arthur Turner; five brothers, Herbert, Leonard, Kenneth, William and Chester; and one sister, Edna Bishop. Services were held at All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery with full military honors. Published in the Peoria Journal Star on 2/20/2010
