Anchorage Daily News November 18, 1999 Longtime Nikiski resident Gloria J. Ferguson, 64, died Nov. 14, 1999, with family at her side at her home in Nikiski. A funeral was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kenai. Officiating was the Rev. Brad Cason. Visitation was at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. Interment was at the McGahan Cemetery in Nikiski. Following the interment, a gathering was held at the LDS Church. A celebration of her life was also held at the Eagles Lodge for family and friends. Mrs. Ferguson was born Sept. 1, 1935, in La Jara, Colo., to Bert and Mildred Vance. She lived in Colorado for most of her young adult life. She loved to sing and dance. She led the choir and was dance instructor for the LDS church. On Aug. 11, 1961, she moved to Alaska with her husband, Raymond Williams, and three daughters. They homesteaded in North Kenai on Holt Road. Her family wrote: ''She was a true pioneer in every sense of the word. She loved to raise animals and share this love with school children. She was known for taking all kinds of animals to school or having a field trip to her house. ''Mom was very much a people person. She could always be seen at Big John's sharing a conversation and a smile with everyone she met. Everything she did was with a zest for life.'' Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond J. Williams; sister, Cherie Mortenson; and son, Steven Williams. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Edward Ferguson of Nikiski; daughters and sons-in-laws, Laurie and Kelly Bookey, Denise and Bill Anderson, Marlene and Dave Wise, all of Kenai, and Susan and Mark Passe of Sumas, Wash.; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sara Williams of Bellingham, Wash., and Kevin and Debbie Williams of Spokane, Wash.; brothers and sister-in-law, Gary Vance of Seward, and Brett and Betty Vance of Federal Way, Wash.; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
