Lawrence Walter Vonier, son of Walter and Lulu Hoskins Vonier, was born November 20, 1900 at Campbell Hill, Illinois, and passed away in St. Andrews Hospital, Murphysboro, August 16, 1934 at the age of 33 years, 8 months and 26 days. He received his education in the Campbell Hill public school. He served during the World War in the United States Naval Reserve Force, and was honorably discharged September 30, 1921. He was dean of the rural mail carriers out of Campbell Hill post officed, having served in that capacity for 15 years. During childhood he attended the Presbyterian Sunday School and Church and recently was baptized. He was married June 10, 1926 to Miss Ruth Fults of Ava, Illinois. They were blessed with one daughter, Lou Anne, aged five years, who now survives with her mother. He became ill July 5 and was taken to St. Andrews Hospital in Murphysboro, Illinois July 16. He was brought home July 29 to regain strength for a major operation, which was performed August 9th. He seemed very hopeful of his recovery, but despite all that loving hands could do the Angel of Death came. He was a member of Shiloh Hill Lodge, No. 695, A. F. & A. M. Modern Woodmen of America; American Legion, Roger Taft Post, No. 331; Illinois Rural Letter Carriers and of the Eastern Star. In this order Campbell Hill Chapter, No. 882, Order he held the office of Past Patron. He had a host of friends and was highly respected by all. He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife, Ruth, and daughter, Lou Anne, one brother, Harry Vonier of Bell, California, and a half sister, Mrs. Madeline Vann of St. Louis, Mo., together with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Campbell Hill Presbyterian Church by the pastor, Rev. Thomson Campbell. The body was buried in the Looney Springs Cemetery at Campbell Hill under the auspices of the Masonic Order and Roger Taft Post, American Legion. The funeral was very largely attended.
