Henry Clay Chambless was born on January 10, 1901, to Benjamin Franklin Chambless and Nancy Lillie King. Clay married Pansy Lee Moshier on September 6, 1922, under an oak tree on Bow Street in Tyler, while sitting in a T-Model Ford. Clay and Pansy were the parents of three boys: Ralph, Lloyd, and Bobby. Clay was a lifelong resident of Tyler. He was retired from the Cotton Belt Railroad and a member of IOOF Lodge and Calvary Baptist Church. Clay died at his home on November 24, 1980. He was survived by his wife, Pansy; sons, Lloyd and Bobby; his brother, Paul; and a sister, Lilly Smith. Funeral services were held at Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home with burial in Bascom Cemetery.
