Bio

Frederick "Sandy" Taylor, 83, of West, Texas, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, in Waco. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. A rosary will be recited 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home, followed by visitation until 8 p.m. Sandy was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Frederick and Hessie (Curtis) Taylor. He attended West schools and Hill College. Sandy served his country with the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War, and after 21 years, he retired in 1967. On Aug. 8, 1957, he was united in marriage to Leona (Hykel) Pustejovsky in Waco. Sandy worked for Texas State Technical College as an electrician until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He was also a charter member of West V.F.W. Post 4819, American Legion Post No. 478, Elk's Lodge, and Fleet Reserves. He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Nathan Spinks; brothers, Paul C. Taylor and Robert W. Taylor; and sisters, Lois Hornak and Patsy Ruth Valone. Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Leona, of West; stepsons, Albin Pustejovsky and wife, Carol, of Malakoff, Roger Pustejovsky and wife, Debbie, of Mertens, Leon Pustejovsky and wife, Peggy, and Freddy Taylor and wife, Branna, all of West; daughter, Joan Winters and husband, Gary, of Napa, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
