The Carnegie Herald, April 8, 1931 Services Tuesday For World War Vet William Coulter, World war veteran, lost a long fight for health and answered the last roll call early Monday morning of this week. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. R. K. McGregor preaching the sermon. Interment was made in the Carnegie cemetery under the auspices of the local post of the American Legion of which he was a member at time of his death. The honorary salute was fired by a squad of his former comrades and the buglar sounded "taps" over the open grave. Pitcher's funeral home had charge of the arrangements. William Coulter was born near Cordell, Okla. May 6, 1897 and died at the B.T. Burton home south of Carnegie April 6, 1931, aged 33 years and 11 months. The early part of his life was spent in this part of the state. He went to Arizona in 1916 and took up railroading at which occupation he was engaged when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy May 24, 1918. He saw active service aboard the battleships and earned the rating of seaman 2nd class. He was relieved from active duty February 16, 1919, recalled into service December 2, 1920 and received his final papers August 4, 1921. He was married to Miss Florence Burton at the Baptist church in Carnegie May 25, 1924. Besides his wife he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Coulter of Booker, Texas and four sisters, Mrs. Edna Roberson and Mrs. Alta Wilson of Amarillo, Mrs. Carrie Henry, Carnegie, Miss Dollie Coulter, Booker, and many other relatives.
