Herald Coaster, July 24, 1986: Funeral services for John C. Chovanec, 81, of Rosenberg, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg. Msgr. Robert Barzyk will officiate. Burial will be at West Gethsemane Cemetery in Rosenberg. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Davis-Dawson Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Chovanec was born on Jan. 27, 1905 in Park. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the KJT. He was the widower of Frances Hajdik Chovanec, who died Feb. 17, 1985. Mr. Chovanec died early Wednesday at Leisure Lodge Convalescent Center in Rosenberg after a lengthy illness. Survivors include two daughters, Vera Becan and Otillie Matocha, both of Rosenberg; two sons, Johnnie Chovanec and Benjamin Chovanec, both of Rosenberg; a sister, Emilie Chovanec of Hostyn; a brother, Frank Chovanec of Ammannsville; and 15 grandchildren. Friends may call at Davis-Dawson Funeral Home in Rosenberg after 3 p.m. Thursday.
