The Nebraska Signal July 1943 William George Fries was born at Milwaukee, Wis., November 20, 1869. He passed away at Ravenna, Neb., June 17, 1943, at the age of 74 years, 3 months, and 28 days. He is survived by his wife, Fanny Fries, and by five sons and three daughters; John of St. Paul, Henry of Grand Island, George of Ansley, William Jr. of Ravenna, Ed of Los Angeles; Mrs. Emma Skelenar and Mrs. Blanche Brust of Ravenna, and Mrs. Helen Stuckey of Riverton, Wyo. There are twenty-seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers and three sisters. Mr. Fries came to Nebraksa with his parents when he was one year old, their first home being near Ohiowa, in Fillmore County. In 1890 he was married to Fanny Ondrak at Geneva, Neb., and for fifteen years they farmed in Fillmore County. After farming four years in Custer County, they moved to Ravenna, in 1909, and made their home here until his death. Mr. Fries worked for the Burlington Railroad twenty-three years until he reached the age of retirement in 1837, and lived a quiet life thereafter. In early life he learned the dignity of labor, and while pursuing his business as a farmer, working for the railroad company or any other work entrusted to him, he never shirked a task or failed to fulfill a duty. Rearing and providing for a large family, he met every responsibility face to face. He lived a busy and useful life and was a worthy companion of the wife who shared it with him. The deceased is a brother of Gust and Henry Fries and a brother-in-law of Mrs. A. V. Steyskal of Ohiowa.
