Date: 11/8/2009 at 23:31:57 The Mills County Tribune 17 May 1915 Mrs. Esther Kates, for over 24 years a resident of Glenwood and vicinity, died at her home in this city shortly after the noon hour Sunday, May 16. She had been sick for the past six weeks. Esther Coleman was born in Auglaize County, Ohio, June 27, 1837, and died May 16, 1915, aged 77 years, 10 months, and 19 days. She was united in marriage to Wm. H. Kates on August 5, 1855, at Wapakoneta, Ohio. Her husband died in Glenwood in July 1893. Mr. and Mrs. Kates moved to Glenwood in 1891, coming here from Nebraska. To the union was born eleven children, eight of whom survive to mourn a beloved mother. These are -- Mrs. Thomas Lambert, George, James C., William M., Philip R., Arnold B., Joseph J., all of Glenwood, and Mrs. Jennie Ducker of New Raymer, Colorado. The children who preceded her in death were -- Samuel P., Sarah E., and Annie M. Kates. Besides the children, there are 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren to mourn her departure. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. J. F. Stille on Tuesday, May 18, at two o'clock at the residence. Burial will be in the Glenwood cemetery.
