☆～ VETERAN, KOREAN WAR (1950-1953) ～☆ Daniel A. Spatz, 84, of Grand Island died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at the Grand Island Veterans Home. The funeral service will be immediately following the rosary. Burial will be in the Burkett Cemetery of the Grand Island Veterans Home. Mr. Spatz was born March 18, 1925, in Brainard to Anton and Lyudmila (Kracman) Spatz. Survivors of the immediate family include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Adolph and Margaret of Bee and Emil and Caroline of Brainard; and a sister, Marge Ratkovec of Mead. Additional survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Louis, William and Ray; sisters, Gladys Ustahol and Irene Spatz; and two brothers-in-law, Alvin Ustahol and Leonard Ratkovec. He attended county schools and graduated from Brainard High School. Following school, he went to work on the family farm before serving in the Army during the Korean War. When he returned, Daniel continued to work on the family farm. After the death of his parents, he moved to Grand Island and resided at the Nebraska Veterans Home.
