Mamie, as Mary was lovingly called, was born in 1907 to Clifton Davis of Oconee County, South Carolina and "Big Annie" Cleveland of Hood County, Texas. She had three brothers and a sister: Tremholm C Davis 1895-1925 Elgin Larkin Davis 1901-1973 Annie Dora Davis Molder 1908-2002 Bud Davis 1910-1972 Mamie married Marvin Nichols of Dallas shortly after his return from Naval service in 1946. She was a doting grandmother to her three grandchildren Geary, Steve, and Melanie Watson, serving up heaping helpings of eggs & chicken from her coop, vegetables and fruit from her garden & orchard, and hot homemade biscuits. She taught us to take the chicken from egg to table, and even helped Papaw Marvin with hog butchering. However; her catfish, fresh from the Brazos River, was her specialty and our favorite. She always made us welcome in her home, sometimes for a month at a time in summers. Her nieces Linda and Diane who lived across the pasture were our companions during our summer vacations in Granbury, and meals around Mamie's table and screened porch are legendary in our family. Mamie, we miss you and love you for loving our Papaw.
