Bio

Hazel Hill McCook, age 100, passed away at Jefferson Regional Medical Center Saturday, January 2, 2010. She was born September 22, 1909, at 1604 West 18th Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The oldest of 8 children to the late George Randolph and Mary Mae Borecky Hill. Hazel received her education in the Pine Bluff School System. She married on June 14, 1941, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Charles McCook. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; 3 sisters, Dorothy Hill Bragg, Ann Hill Lawing, and Willie Hill Brown of Pine Bluff; 2 brothers, George Randolph Hill, Jr., of West Memphis, Arkansas, and Morton R. (Red) Hill of Pine Bluff. Survivors include a brother - Robert L. (Bob) Hill of Pine Bluff and a sister - Mary Hill Fleming of Little Rock, Arkansas. Following in her father's footsteps she began her career at the Pine Bluff Commercial at the age of 17. Through the years she worked in several printing shops throughout the United States. She retired in 1974 from the Baker Printing Company in Lubbock, Texas, and moved back to Pine Bluff. Hazel became an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Hazel maintained a high level of physical activity into her late 80's. After moving into the White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center she celebrated her 100th birthday. Her hobbies were making beaded necklaces and enjoying embroidering. The family extends a special thanks to Hazel's niece, Marie Brown Jones, for being her legal guardian and her loving care she provided. Also, the family would like to express their appreciation to all of the staff of White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for their loving care of Ms. Hazel. Hazel lived her long healthy life well. Truly she was a unique and remarkable lady and she will be missed. Funeral services were held at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James Watson officiating.
