An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Friday, 1-13-1961: James Madison (Jim) Ward, 85, died Sunday night at his home in Gatesville after an extended illness. Mr. Ward had lived in Gatesville since 1910. Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at Scott's Chapel, Rev. G. L. Derrick officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bobby Beck, Raymond Ward, Nesbit Ward, Solan Dennis, John Williams and Buck Hinson. Mr. Ward was born at Jonesboro Dec. 15, 1875, and lived in Coryell County all his life. He formerly operated a small store in Gatesville. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma Jane Ward; four brothers, B. E. Ward of Abilene and M. A. Ward, W. H. Ward and Sam L. Ward, all of Gatesville; and one sister, Mrs. J. H. Timmons of Celina.
