Bio
Carolina E. Matus was born on Aug. 13, 1906 in Lavcaca Co. in the Vlastenec community to Louis J. Matus and Karolina (Corolyn) Kahanek Matus. Siblings include: Lillie and Julia. Carrie was baptized in the old Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church on 9-1-1906 and her godparents were Joseph and Mary Cizek. She attended the Michna school. On Nov. 9, 1926 Carrie married Jerome Frank Patek at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas. To this union were born 8 children: Estelle Carrie Patek (Heimann); b. 8-21-1927 Carrie Lillian Patek (Hajek); b. 6-15-1929, d. 8-20-2008 Jerome Frank "Jerry" Patek Jr.; b. 10-28-1931, d. 8-24-2004 George Joseph Patek; b. 2-22-1933 Evelyn Vera Patek (Holub); b. 1-31-1935, d. 8-22-2008 Daniel John Patek; b. 3-4-1938, d. Eugene Frank Patek; b. 9-30-1940 Frederick "Freddie" Patek; b. 7-8-1944 The family lived on a farm near Sweet Home, TX. Jerome made a living for the family playing in the Joe Patek Orchestra. In 1945 the family moved to town in Shiner. Carrie passed away at the age of 86 in the Yoakum Hospital surrounded by all her children whom she shared remembrances of happy times gone by.
