Evelyn Vera Patek was born on January 31, 1935 to Jerome F. Patek and Carrie Elizabeth (Matus) Patek. Siblings included: Estelle Patek (Heimann) Carrie Patek (Hajek) Jerry Patek George Patek Daniel Patek Eugene Patek Freddie Patek The family farmed for a living, eventually moving to Shiner, TX. On June 22, 1953 she married Eugene Holub Sr. at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, TX. To this union were born 6 children: Rose Marie Holub (Gorney) Debbie Sue Holub (Ellison) Eugene Charles Holub, Jr. David Jerome Holub Nancy Jane Holub (Smith) Edward James Holub Evelyn was a great wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She always said her greatest joy was her family. They have many fond memories of her, including coloring Easter eggs, playing cards, listening to her childhood stories, eating her scrumptious turkey and dressing, and dancing to her much loved Czech polkas and waltzes. In her life she had many loves......dancing, cooking, watching her sons play baseball, driving a school bus, enjoying a glass of tea with all her neighbors, playing slot machines, growing beautiful roses, and entertaining her grandchildren. Evelyn was also a devoted parishioner of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Evelyn passed peacefully into eternal life on August 22, 2008 in Spring Branch Hospital after fighting a long battle with lung cancer. She was 73. She will be deeply missed and will forever remain in the hearts of her loving family and all who knew her. ------------------------------- (Obituary - The Houston Chronicle) Evelyn Vera Holub January 31, 1935-August 22, 2008 Evelyn Vera Holub, 73, passed into eternal life Friday, August 22, 2008 in Houston. She was born in Sweet Home, Texas on January 31, 1935 to Jerome F. and Carrie E. (Matus) Patek. Mrs. Holub was a devoted, admired and respected parishioner of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and all who knew her. Visitation will be held Monday, August 25th from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be held at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held Tuesday, August 26th at 1 p.m. at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 11507 Huffmeister, Houston 77065. There will be an escorted cortege to Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery where she will be laid to rest immediately following the Mass. --------------------------------- (Obituary) The Rockdale Reporter - August 28, 2008 Holub HOUSTON — A Celebration of Life Mass for Evelyn Vera (Patek) Holub, 73, was held on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Houston by Rev. Sean Horrigan. Burial was in Forrest Park Cemetary in Houston. A vigil and rosary was held on Monday, Aug. 25, at Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home. Mrs. Holub fought a long battle with lung cancer and died Friday, Aug. 22. She was born on Jan. 31, 1935, in Sweet Home and grew up in Shiner. She married Eugene Holub on June 22, 1954, in Shiner. Mrs. Holub was a member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Houston. She enjoyed dancing, cooking and watching her sons play baseball. Mrs. Holub drove a school bus for 24 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Carrie Patek; a sister, Carrie Hajek; and two brothers, Jerry and Daniel Patek. Survivors are her husband of 54 years, Gene Holub; three sons, Eugene and wife Bonnie, David and wife Debra, and Edward; three daughters, Rose and husband James Gorney, Debbie and husband Wayne Ellison, Nancy and husband Jamie Smith; 18 grandchildren, Adam, Brandi, Carrin, Eric, Luke, Krista, Michael, Kalli, Aaron, Jared, Jacob, Sarah, Bryan, Eugene, Corolyn, Caitlin, Daniel, and Patrick; six great-grandchildren, Lainie, Carter, Wyatt, Catherine, Marshall and 3-day-old Cora; three brothers, George, Eugene and Fred Patek; and a sister, Estelle Heimann.
