Services for Gertie B. Orender, 89 of Albion will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Kern officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. She died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion. Gertie Bertina Orender, the daughter of Jens and Mathilda (Froistad) Holvik, was born on Oct. 23, 1920, at Albion. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith on June 23, 1935. Gertie attended Boone County School District 34 up until the eighth grade. She then attended Albion Public Schools and graduated in 1938. On Dec. 23, 1941, Gertie was united in marriage to Leo Orender at Immanuel South Branch Lutheran Church, rural Albion. The couple lived and farmed east of Albion until 1980 when they moved to Albion. Gertie worked as a clerk at Modern Fashions in Albion and as a cook at the high school for 13 years. Gertie was a member of the Immanuel Zion Lutheran Church rural Albion along with the Ladies Aid and Faith Circle there. On Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, Gertie passed away at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion at 89 years of age. She is survived by two daughters, LaVonne and husband Robert of Albion and Joan Hill and husband John of Lincoln; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Gertie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo, son Leon Orender, brother Jacob Holvik and sister Marie Becker.
