An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Saturday, 12-14-2002: Bernice Opal "Nun" Lawson, 85, of Gatesville, died Dec. 9 in a local nursing home. Funeral services were held Thursday at Scott's Funeral Home with Loyd Hall officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Mrs. Lawson was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Lueders, the daughter of the late Walter and Pauline McCarty Woodard. She moved to Goldthwaite as a child and attended school there. On Nov. 10, 1933, she married Theron G. "GiGi" Lawson and they made their home in Goldthwaite before moving to Gatesville in 1969. He preceded her in death on July 10,1986. She owned and operated Mode-O-Day in Gatesville for 22 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Gatesville Church of Christ. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Floyce Rodecker in 1979. Survivors include a daughter, Doris Martin of Gatesville; brother, Bill Woodard of Cleburne; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be made to the Gatesville Church of Christ.
