An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum", Thursday, October 1, 1970: "Carl Olaf Pederson, 70, of Hearne died at 4 a.m. Sept. 23 in a Bryan hospital after a long illness. A retired printer he was a former resident of Gatesville. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Friday in Scott's Funeral Home chapel and were conducted by Rev. James E. Scirratt of Hearne. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Mr. Pederson was born in Gatesville Jan. 25, 1900, the son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Pederson. His father operated a tailor and dry-cleaning shop in Gatesyille for many years. Mr. Pederson was reared here and began his career as a printer with The Messenger. He later was employed by newspapers and printing concerns at various places in Texas, and then worked for a printing firm in Houston from 1939 to 1965, when he retired. He was married to Miss Mary Alice Whitlock on Aug. 25, 1920. Surviving are his wife of Hearne; three sons, William Pederson of Houston, James H. Pederson of Kingsville and Carl Jack Pederson of Houston; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Simpson of Odessa, Mrs. Olga Sherwood of Childress and Mrs. Grace Reynolds of Sweetwater; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers for Mr. Pederson's funeral were Conrad Tubbs, A. L. Lindley, Steve Lindley, Clyde Sherwood, Carl Pederson and Kenny Pederson.
