An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Saturday, May 25, 1996: Otis McDonald of Gatesville died May 20 at his residence. He was 80. Funeral services were Thursday at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jay Riley officiating. Burial, with full military honors, was in Restland Cemetery. He was born Nov. 5, 1915, in Hamilton County the son of the late J. C. and Beatrice McDonald. He was reared in Hamilton County and attended school in Jonesboro. After graduating, he entered the United States Navy and served during World War II. He retired from the Navy with more than 20 years of service. He married the former Lucille Vann on April 13, 1943, and they resided in several cities before moving to Gatesville in 1958. She preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 1984. He worked for the Gatesville State School for Boys before owning and operating Gatesville Appliance Repair Shop for many years, retiring in 1980. He married Maurine Gentry on June 29, 1985, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 1995. He was a member of the Navy Retired Reserve Fleet and the First Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Jacqueline Lusby of Gatesville; a son, Reginald Norfleet of Rosebud; a sister, Hazel Witzel of LeRoy; two brothers, Arvin McDonald of Waco and D.W. McDonald of Gatesville; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Mike Kuzenka, Eugene Lusby, Chuck Reed, Edwin Barnard, Benny Blanchard and Jake Witzel. The family suggests memorials be given to the Round Rock Baptist Children's Home, in care of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville.
