Bio
Gordon A. Messall, 80, of Lubbock, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at the VistaCare Hospice in Carillon House, after a lengthy illness. Celebration of Life services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 at Christ Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Rhode officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will receive guests this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Gordon was born on July 12, 1929 in Waterville, Minn. to August and Louise Messall. Gordon came to Lubbock in 1949 to be Stationed at Reese Air Force Base. He married Anna Bess Slater on March 21, 1951 in Lovington, N.M. In 1953, after four years in the Air Force, Gordon went to work for Sears and Roebuck Company. He retired from Sears in 1976 after 23 years. Gordon was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church since arriving in Lubbock. He had been a member of Christ Lutheran since 1996. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Bess; parents, August and Louise Messall; brother, Ted Messall; sister, Bernice Murphy; and granddaughter, Lisa Ann Lowrance. Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Linda Lowrance and husband Michael of Odessa and Karen Hyatt of Lubbock; son, Ronald Gordon Messall of Lubbock; grandchildren, Chad Lowrance and wife Tammy, Tricia Hyatt and Chris Hyatt; great-grandchildren, Brendon, Carson and McKinley Lowrance; five nieces; and a brother-in-law, Eugene Murphy of Minnesota.
