Bio

Donovan Dean Manifold, 58, of Aplington, Iowa, was born June 2, 1951, in Charles City, Iowa, son of Paul Russell and Tena (Freerks) Manifold. He graduated from Aplington High School in 1970 and attended Hawkeye Community College to earn his LPN degree. Donovan married Susan Marie Cuvelier on January 24, 1971, in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived in Rolfe, Iowa for eight years where he worked for the Farmer's Co-op. They moved to Aplington where he worked at Farmland Foods in Iowa Falls. Donovan was employed at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley and later at Country View Nursing Home in Waterloo until he became disabled. Donovan was a member of First Reformed Church in Aplington. He enjoyed fishing and hunting when he was younger. His dogs were his special friends. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed trips to see their son John in Germany. Donovan died Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at his home in Aplington following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Russell Manifold on January 21, 2009; one sister, Cindy Janssen and one brother, Jim Freerks. He is survived by his wife, Susan Manifold; two sons, Matthew (Anne) Manifold, and their children, Jarrett and Madison and John (Sylvia) Manifold, and their three children, Lukas, Emilie and Jack; one brother, Doug Manifold; six sisters: Donna Voss, Sharon Miller, Karen Counts, Pauline (Robert) D'Amore, Jeannie (Kart) Weinert and Sandra Edler; one sister-in-law, Nola Freerks. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, at First Reformed Church with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery. Redman-Schwartz Chapel is in charge. Obituary contributor: Benjamin L Manifold
