Rudolph Charles "Rudy" Vodehnal, of Ord, Nebraska departed this life and entered The Eternal Home on November 28, 2009, at Valley View Living Center in Ord, Nebraska. Rudy was 100 years of age having been born on August 9, 1909, on the family farm 17 miles west of Ord, Nebraska to Vencil and Anna (Masin) Vodehnal. Rudy attended country school at Woodman Hall, Rural School District No. 73 and Ord 9 Nebraska)High School. He graduated from Comstock 9Nebraska) High School with The Class of 1928. He continued his education at the St. Paul ( Nebraska) Business College. Rudy farmed with his parents until they retired in 1952. He then purchased the family farm, where he continued to farm until his retirement in 1982. After retirement, Rudy enjoyed working on the farms of his stepsons, Jim and Bill. He did this until the age of 95. Rudy's goal was to live to his 100th birthday. On this special day he was able to ride his horse, Duke. On June 16, 1968, Rudy was united in marriage to Betty (Stanek) Ziegler at Taylor, Nebraska. The couple made their home on Rudy's farm west of Ord, Nebraska. Rudy was born and lived on the family farm for 71 years. In 1979, he and Betty moved into Ord, Nebraska where they resided until moving to Grandview Independent and Assisted Living Center in October 2007. Rudy was a member of the Ord Christian Church, ZCBJ Lodge, Odd Fellows, Elks Lodge, Spring Creek Saddle Club and the Registered Polled Hereford Association. He enjoyed many trail rides, especially the River City Roundup where he was the oldest rider for 10 years. He had a passion for his horses and always enjoyed working on the farm and refurbishing horse harnesses. Rudy is survived by: wife, Betty Vodehal of Ord, Nebraska and his stepchildren who have been his family for the past 40 years, Patricia and Syl Gloss of Bethune, Colorado; Jim and Bonita Ziegler of Burwell, Nebraska; Bill and Candi Ziegler of Ericson, Nebraska; Rhonda and Darrell Miller of Elgin, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Will Vancura of Ord, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Bernice Vodehnal of Ord, Nebraska and a host of friends and relatives. Rudy was welcomed into The Heavenly Home: by his parents, Vencil and Anna Vodehnal; grandson, Jesse Ziegler; brothers, Edwin and Lumir Vodehnal; and sisters, Agnes Vancura and Barbara Kapustka.
