Shirley "Jean" Bornes, 81, of Billings, passed away on Nov. 22, 2009, at Billings Health and Rehabilitation Community. Jean was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Billings, the daughter of Robert and Mae (Lance) Cornell. Jean married Harold Stene in 1946 and in 1947 their son Jim was born. Jean and Harold later divorced. On June 22, 1974, Jean married Leif Bornes. In 1977, the couple moved to Leif's home country of Norway, where they resided for the next 15 years until Leif's death in 1992. Jean returned to Billings later that year. Jean was a true caregiver to everybody, from caring for ill family members, to neighbors needing an extra hand. Following a stroke in 2007, Jean moved to Sweetwater Retirement Community before further failing heath forced her into the nursing home. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leif; stepson Bjorn Bornes; granddaughter Heather Henrichs; and brother-in-law, Gene Mai. She is survived by her son Jim (his wife Pat) Stene of Glasgow, Scotland; sister Virginia (her husband Elwin) Ness of Billings; brother Bob Cornell of Kalispell, and sister Sharon (her late husband Gene) Mai of Billings; as well as grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides of the Special Care Unit at Billings Health and Rehab for their love and tender care. Also, Sheri Jones, who cared for Jean at Sweetwater and remained her friend following her move to the nursing home. And finally, Carrie Ronquillo and the girls now working at Bonaventure for their love and compassion.
