Bio

Son of John & Marie (Marecek) Kruml. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma, who passed away May 13, 2006. Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters and a son-in-law Diane Zwink of St. Libory and Joyce and Lyle Christensen of Omaha; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Carolyn Kruml of Holland, Neb., and Joe and Linda Kruml of Omaha; and a brother, Vencil Kruml of Grand Island. Additional survivors include 16 grandchildren including, Ed Swanek and his wife, Debra of Americas, Kan., who lived with Joe and Irma; 14 great-grandchildren. Joe lived on the family homestead in Garfield County until he was four when the family went to Checokosoviak to visit his mother's parents. When they returned Joe started school at Burwell. The family then moved to the Sioux Creek Township in Garfield County and Joe continued his education at District #4 Country School. During the depression, Joe worked on the family farm. On Nov. 26, 1938, Joe was united in marriage to Irma Ruzicka at Ord. The couple moved to Malin, Ore., where Joe worked in the Lumber Mills, Potato Fields and Dairies. In 1946, the family returned to Nebraska where they built a new home north of Ord. Joe farmed and raised cattle. He was also very involved with planting trees and was awarded the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum Homestead Design and Maintenance Award. Joe belonged to the Lions Club of Elyria and served on the North Loup RPP and Irrigation District Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and carpentry. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Kruml and two sisters, Marie Chaffin and Annie Rutar. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Ord Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or the family.
