Walter Lane Stripling, 58, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009 in Tyler, Texas. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Fairfield Christian Center with Pastor Eston (Buddy) Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Fairfield Cemetery. Lane was born in his beloved Fairfield, Texas on November 7, 1951 and subsequently lived in Fairfield for the great portion of his lifetime. He graduated from Fairfield High School and later from the University of Houston as an architect. After working in Houston until 1983, Lane returned to Fairfield and practiced architecture in Fairfield and the surrounding area designing many residences and business establishments, and renovating a number of older buildings. Lane was also very civic minded especially with relation to improvement and promotion of downtown Fairfield. His major graduating project at the University of Houston was a plan for renovation and improvement of the Freestone County Courthouse Square which was eventually implemented. As can be testified by his many friends, Lane was very intelligent, interested in all aspects of life, and largely lived life on his own terms. Lane was unique and special, and those who were fortunate enough to know him, were, most often, the better for the relationship. Lane is preceded in death by his father, Travis A. Stripling, and mother, Eurline Vaughan Stripling. He is survived by his brother Travis E. Stripling and wife, Hortense. Lane also leaves behind a number of first cousins and a large list of very dear friends to numerous to list.
