Bio
The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, March 15, 1973 Pauline (Stichka) Hesman was born at Crete, Nebraska on June 29, 1886, to her parents, Frank and Barbara Stichka; and after nearly a life-long residency in this community, was called from this life on March 5, 1973. Pauline moved with her parents to Nelson at the age of seven years and received her elementary schooling in that community. On November 15, 1905, she was united in marriage to John Hesman at Nelson. To this union, five sons and four daughters were born. Together with her husband, she resided most of her life and raised the family on a farm near the community of Pauline. Following the death of her husband in 1961, she made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Rudy Haba. During more recent years of failing health, other daughters assisted in the care of her welfare. Her departure from this life occurred at the home of a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Royaland Janssen. At the time of death, she had attained the age of 86 years, eight months and 4 days. Surviving to mourn her passing are five sons Stanley, Elmer, Ivan and Delmar all of Blue Hill and George of Ayr and four daughters Clara Mrs. Joe Synek, of Deweese, Mildred, Mrs. Rudy Haba, of Glenvil, Wilma, Mrs. Ernest Pavelka, of Deweese and Leona, Mrs. Royaland Janssen, of Blue Hill. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. In addition, one brother, Lloyd Stichka of Bridgeport, also survives, besides many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters and a grandson, David Hesman. Services were held on March 9 for Mrs. Hesman in Merten-Butler Funeral Home with Rev. H.P. Peterson officiating. Charles Lukas was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Ralph Baird on the organ. Pallbearers were John Synek, Dean Haba, Gary Hesman, Robert Pavelka, Dale Janssen and Dennis Hesman. Burial was in the Blue Hill Cemetery.
