Bio

Rosalie Lillian Toay, 87, of Richardson, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022. She was born on September 9, 1934, in West, Texas, to the late John & Lillian (Sykora) Gerik. Rosalie grew up in the Dallas area for most of her childhood, but always enjoyed her many visits with family back in West on the family farm, spending countless hours playing and picking cotton with her cousins. She learned to play accordion at a young age, which was the beginning of her life-long love for music. In high school, she worked at a dress shop as well as Carrier Bach, where she saved her hard-earned money to purchase her first car. She was a 1952 graduate of St. Edwards Catholic School. Rosalie was a PBX Switchboard Operator for the City of Richardson for 23 years. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church for many years, and volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul, as she had a heart to help those in need. Rosalie was a member of the 5:30 choir for many years and also the weekly rosary group since 1974. Rosalie enjoyed doing many jigsaw puzzles, reading, refinishing antiques, making ceramics, and working on projects around the home. She was a full-time homemaker for many years and enjoyed taking care of her family, especially preparing holiday meals. Rosalie loved Christmas and all of the many details that surrounded the holiday. She spent hours making decorations and baking holiday treats to share with family and friends. Rosalie created so many memories for her families that will be cherished for years to come. Most of all, Rosalie liked to have fun. A day with Rosalie was certain to be a blast, filled with smiles and lots of laughter. She loved spending time and playing games with her grandchildren, as she was so fun to play with. Rosalie's zest for life will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. In addition to her parents, Rosalie was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Ann Gerik and Margie Morris; and beloved cats, Tigger & Shadow. She is survived by her beloved husband of 46½ years Ray Toay; children, Linda (George) Ray of Nacogdoches, TX, David (Kathy) Doggett III of Jupiter, FL, and Larry Doggett of Dallas, TX; and grandchildren, Regina Ray, Dr. George Ray III (Dr. Tasnim Islam), Brian Doggett, Mary Ann Doggett, Stephen Doggett, Jason Doggett, Ginger Doggett, Tiffany Doggett (Justin Willis), Jennifer Crossen, and Kimberly Mendoza. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, from 7-9 pm at St. Paul Catholic Church, 720 S. Floyd Rd., Richardson, TX, with a rosary service beginning at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at 9:30 am in the church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in West, Texas.
