Ernest Svrcek, age 76 of West, passed away Friday morning in a Waco nursing home. Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Marys Church of the Assumption in West, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m. with Rev. Chacko, celebrant. Military Graveside Rites followed at St. Marys Cemetery in West. Visitation was from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at Kotch Funeral Home in West. Mr. Svrcek was born March 15, 1929 to Ladin and Adela Svrcek in West and had lived in the West area most of his live (life). He attended school at Cottonwood and West High School. He served in the US Army from 1948 until 1949 and was recalled to Korea from (in) 1950 and 1951. He was wounded multiple times in April 1951. He married Shirley Berger on September 2, 1952. He worked for Boiley Pareya at Humble Gas Station in West for a number of years and Nemecek Bros. for thirty-nine years. He was a member of VFW Post 4819 of West, DAV #478, Order of the Purple Heart, Knights of Columbus Council #2305 and The First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association (CW).
