Velma Schuetz, age 98, of Abbott, passed away late Tuesday evening, August 22, 2017 at West Rest Haven in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Darrell Kostiha as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Velma was born March 27, 1919 in West, the daughter of Jerome and Albina (Janek) Janak. She attended St. Mary's School. On January 3, 1949 she was united in marriage to Eddie Schuetz in West. Velma was a seamstress working for several area manufactories including J.M Woods in Waco and Lorch's in West. Following her retirement, Velma volunteered at the West Senior Center. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Velma was also a member of the Central Texas Bass Club and several Over 50 Dance Clubs. She enjoyed fishing, sewing and was an avid West Trojan fan. She loved spending time with her family, especially her dog, Oscar. Velma is preceded in death by her parents; a niece, Nona Jean Gerik; and a nephew, Larry Kubacak. Survivors include her beloved husband of 68 years, Eddie Schuetz of Abbott; a niece, Earline Rochester and husband Ray of West; special freinds, Becky Thuerauf and John Rizo; and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be her family.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund.
