Mrs. John A. Popp, Long-time West Resident, Dies Monday Mrs. John A. (Rudolfina) Popp, 77, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday, May 15, in a Waco hospital following a short illness. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of the Assumption, West, Msgr. I.J. Valenta and Rev. James Quilter officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at her residence, 211 N. Davis St., West. Connally Funeral Home, Waco, was in charge. Mrs. Popp was born in Frystak, Slovensko, Czechoslovakia on March 27, 1884. She came to the United States when she was 15, with her sister, Frances, who was 17. They came to live with their maternal uncle, Father Frank Sebik, here in West. Later Father Sebik moved to Pennsylvania, where he died. One of Mrs. Popp's sisters, Mary, remained in Czechoslovakia where she married and had two sons, Bohumil and Frank Krajca. Mrs. Popp visited with her nephew Frank in 1959. Mrs. Popp's older brother, Frank Kapavik, came to the United States first. The rest of the Kapavik family came in 1900. Coming with them were their children, Louise (Mrs. Frank Lenart), Louis Kapavik and Julia (Mrs. Emil Gerik). Mr. and Mrs. Popp were married on August 18, 1903. Mr. Popp died on May 14, 1931. Mrs. Popp was a member of The Church of the Assumption, the Altar Society and KJZT Lodge. Survivors are a son, John F. Popp, of Waco; two daughters, Mrs. John (Lillian) Mashek of Waco and Mrs. George E. (Albina) Kacir of West; two sisters, Mrs. Julie Gerik and Mrs. Frank Lenart, both of West, and a grandson, John Mashek, Jr. of Waco. Pallbearers were her nephews, William A. Kapavik, Jim Lenart, Henry Popp, John Popp, C. Kolacek and Ernest Gerik.
