Mrs. Joe (Emilie) Ondrej, age 96 of West, formerly of Penelope, died April 11, 1999 at her residence. A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel by Deacon Buddy Shields. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. April 14 in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Jerry Ryan, O.S.A. as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mrs. Ondrej was born November 3, 1902 in West and had lived in the West and Penelope area all of her life. She married Joe Ondrej on November 7, 1927 in West and he preceded her in death on May 2, 1989. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Survivors include one son, Joe B. and wife Agnes Ondrej of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Hykel and husband William of Elm Mott and Georgia Davis of Evansville, Indiana; one sister, Helen Cook of Kingsland, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
