Brother and Sister Killed Here Sunday In Car-Train Crash Couple Returning From Church Services When Tragic Crash Occurred Frank Mynarcik, 38, farmer of this community, and his sister, Miss Mary Mynarcik, 44, of West, were killed when the model A Ford sedan in which they were riding was struck by a fast Katy passenger train at the railroad crossing on South Spruce street. The tragedy occurred about 12:45 p.m. Sunday as the couple were returning home from church services. Mr. Mynarcik died en route to a Waco hospital and Miss Mynarcik a few minutes after arrival. There were no eye witnesses to the accident but neighbors living nearby heard the crash and rushed to the scene. It is said that the passenger train going south, was running behind schedule and was traveling at a high rate of speed. It traveled about a mile from the scene of the accident before being stopped. The Mynarcik vehicle was carried about 75 or 100 feet down the tracks and crashed into a mail post, which was leveled to the ground by the impact. The automobile was demolished and parts of it scattered along the tracks. The bodies of the pair were badly crushed and neither regained consciousness following the crash. Funeral Services Tuesday Double funeral services for the two were held here at the Catholic church at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Rev. E.J. Polcak officiating. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery. My Mynarcik is survived by two children, Mary, 15, and Edward, 13. He resided six miles east of West near the Hill county line. Surviving Mr. Mynarcik and Miss Mynarcik are four sisters, Mesdames Florian Rejcek, John Knapp, Frank Lenart and Rosie Beseda of West; two brothers, Joe and Anton Mynarcik of West. NOTE: The last name, Mynarcik, is corrected from Mynarcek in the article. The West News, West, Texas, Volume 51, No. 35, Edition 1, Friday, January 24, 1941, page 1.
