Bio

Edward G. Mazanec Jr., age 80, of McGregor, passed away late Thursday morning, September 6, 2012 at his residence. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Howard Palms. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Edward was born January 13, 1932 in Waco, the son of Agnes (Jezek) and Edward G. Mazanec Sr. He attended school at Sacred Heart Academy in Waco, graduated from La Vega High School in 1951, before attended Texas A&M University. On May 9, 1953 he was united in marriage to Anita Harris in Waco. Edward was the founder and owner of Mazanec Construction Company until he retired in 1998. He was a faithful member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco. He was also a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #66, the Knights of Columbus Council in Waco and served as past president of the Central Texas Chapter of Association of General Contractors. He enjoyed hunting, skeet shooting, dancing and boating. He and Anita went on over 20 cruises all over the world. Edward is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mary Ann Mazanec. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Anita Mazanec of McGregor; two sons, Ed Mazanec III and wife Vicky and Mark Mazanec and wife Cyndi, all of Waco; a daughter, Kathy Schroeder and husband Tim of McGregor; two sisters, Margaret Palms and husband Howard of Dennison and Betty Bessire of Lubbock; grandchildren, Kimberly Schroeder, Christina Schroeder, Eddie Mazanec IV and wife Jessica, Lindsey Mazanec, Matthew Mazanec, Sean Mazanec, and Aaron Anderson; his two bichon dogs, Fluffy and Angel; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Harry Vrana, Dr. Tom Lundeen, Wes Schreiber, Walter Grisham, Bud Jarosek, Kenneth Young, Ernie Stiba and Robert Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Hospice or the American Heart Association. The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers James Matthews and Sunni Vereen, Providence Hospice and Minister Greg Knippa.
