Funeral Mass for Betty Mazanec Bessire, 88, of Lubbock will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Christ The King Cathedral with Monsignor Ben Kasteel officiating. Graveside services will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Sanders Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Sanders Memorial Chapel. Please celebrate the life of Betty by visiting www.sandersfuneralhome.com. Betty went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 2, 2018. Betty was born April 15, 1929 in Waco, Texas, to Edward Mazanec and Agnes Jezek Manazec. She spent her childhood on the family's farm in Waco. She graduated from La Vega High School in Bellmead, Texas. After graduating from Business School, she was an Officer's Payroll Clerk at James Connally Air Force Base. She met the love of her life, Loyal Bessire, on a bus in Waco, Texas. Betty and Loyal married in 1951. Their journey together continued for fifty-seven years of marriage. In 1966, they moved their family to Lubbock, Texas where they lived the rest of their lives. Betty was an active and involved charter member of Christ The King Parish. She selflessly devoted herself to many volunteer activities in the church and Christ the King School. She was the high school librarian for over 20 years. After retiring she continued her volunteer work in the Auxilliary at St. Mary's Hospital/Covenant Lakeside working in the gift shop and also with Catholic Family Services. After the death of her husband she moved to Carillon in 2011 where she enjoyed the activities there and her time with the other residents. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2008 and brother, Edward Mazanec. She is survived by her sons, Patrick Bessire of Lubbock, Mike Bessire and wife, Jan of Plano; Thomas Bessire of Houston; and daughter, Betsy Bessire Lewis and husband, Mike of Plainview; and sister, Margaret Palms of Denison. Her grandchildren who called her their Nana; Brian Lewis and wife, Shelby; Lauren Bessire DeBree and husband, Mark; Amanda Lewis Johnson and husband, Chad; Elizabeth Bessire Lopez and husband, Mike; great grandchildren, Alex Johnson, Emory and Everett Lewis, Michael, Matthew and Jackson DeBree. Memorials are suggested to Christ The King Cathedral School Foundation, 4011 54th Street Lubbock, Texas 79413. Betty was a wonderful woman who touched many lives with her loving and generous spirit. Her lifetime devotion to her husband and children was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.
